Meet Elixir: Recycled Yarn, made right here in Bendigo

Bright, colourful and full of personality, Elixir is one of our favourite yarns to make and use in all sorts of projects!

But behind the vibrant shades and beautifully squishy texture, Elixir's story is extra special: carefully developed over the last few years to reduce waste in our production, Elixir was created with thoughtful manufacturing in mind.

Made right here in Bendigo using excess fibres from our factory, Elixir transforms what would otherwise go to waste into something completely new.

A Recycled Yarn With Character

Throughout the manufacturing process, there are always small amounts of excess fibre that can't be used as planned. This can include tangles, knots and leftover fibres that would traditionally be discarded.

But instead of letting these fibres go to waste, we re-card and re-spin them to create Elixir.

The fibres are mixed and carded (combed)back into soft fluffy fibre, before they're spun into a new yarn ready to be dyed in one of Elixir's signature vibrant shades. The result is a beautifully soft recycled yarn with plenty of texture and personality throughout.

Because Elixir is made from recycled fibres, every batch has its own unique character. The occasional slubby spot and tweedy fleck are all part of its charm, giving finished projects a wonderfully organic, handmade feel.

Made In Australia

One of the things we love most about Elixir is that the entire process happens right here in Australia at our mill in Bendigo.

By recycling and respinning fibres locally, Elixir avoids much of the additional transport and processing often involved in textile production. It’s a thoughtful way to make use of materials already within our manufacturing process, while making something colourful, creative and fun to work with.

What’s In Elixir?

Elixir is made from 98% recycled natural fibres, with 2% other fibres. The natural fibre composition will be a majority of wool, but may also include bamboo, cotton, silk & alpaca. This blend gives Elixir its soft, bouncy feel and beautiful texture, while still remaining breathable and comfortable to wear.

Each dyelot and colourway is unique, with some variation of fibre content from the recycling process.

Now Available In 8 Ply & 16 Ply

While we originally released Elixir as a 16 ply only, it was so popular (and fun) that we had to extend the range...so it's now here as an affordable 8 ply yarn that's versatile enough for all your favourite 8 ply patterns.

Alongside the launch of Elixir 8 Ply, we’ve also expanded the colour palette with seven fresh new shades, bringing the full range to 18 colours now available in both weights.

From bold brights and playful colour combinations to softer, more understated tones, Elixir was designed for colourful creativity.
